This week, Influencers in the record biz - Let’s go -

This will be the start of a three week series on Influencers, Advocates and fans in the marketing of your music. Today we will start with the Influencers. First of all influencers are those individuals that have the power to affect the purchasing decisions of others based on their authority, knowledge, position, relationship and trust they have with their own audience. In this case size does not matter, because it’s about quality not just quantity. Influencers are relationship assets that can help you build long term connections with fans; the right fans that are in your niche and are active and engaged. Better a little of the right ones than a lot of the wrong ones.

The world of influencer marketing is not new, however it is somewhat of a new development in the music marketing world. In this instance you as the artist would partner with an influencer to promote your work to their followers. Influencers usually have trusted followers across multiple social media platforms, and those followers engage with them and look to learn about new stuff; including music. They help DIY musicians get their music to a wider audience. In addition using an influencer helps you build your marketing team. For instance you could be Unda The Hat and we could help you find the right influencer. An influencer does not have to stay long and usually does not have an emotional attachment to you or your music; although they could become fans down the road. More on that when we talk about fans. Influencers usually want some sort of compensation in return for their work. It can be anywhere from $10.00 to $20,000 - yep, 20 G's  per campaign, depending on the influencer, the campaign, and the size of their followers. The way to find out who is really good at the influencer game is to look at more than the views and likes, but the engagements. In a conversation with a label executive, he told me that they look at the engagements and what fans are saying. That means that paid ads are becoming more the traditional route, while influencer marketing is the guerilla marketing technique. In a perfect world you want a bit of both because you do still want good SEO placement on google.

This week's #IAOTW - Independent Artists Of The Week is Chaptabois, a hip hop duo out of Houston TX that makes their bones in the sync licensing game. But they got bangas! Click their name link and scroll down to meet them and hear their music.
