Where will you land? - Let’s go -

I am one that strongly believes that every musician, rapper, producer, or artist needs their own website. It’s not enough to have a social media page. Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are great platforms to be on, and they are essential in today's music business; but they are not yours. You don’t own them, you have to play by their rules, and heaven forbid if they go down. Yes, I know your website could go down too but it’s still your virtual store. The question that comes up quite often is do you need a landing page if you have a website? The answer to that is yes. So what is a landing page?  A landing page is a standalone web page kinda sorta, that potential customers can “land” on when they click through from an email, ad, or other digital location. I like to think of it as a product preview on your page. When you are doing something special, putting out a new product, a new tee-shirt or anything new, this is where you would let that product stand out. When a fan comes from a place like TikTok, or IG, goes to your page, and interacts with your page in any way like signing up, filling out a lead, or buying a product. For a musician, a landing page is where people go when they want to learn more about that special offering, the new single, an opt-in page for your email list, music lessons, new inventions, the new hat, or merch item, or catalog. For Unda The Hat it’s the page that shows off the Indie Artist Of The Week (#IAOTW) and the featured single from the artist roster. The landing page helps to introduce your fans to the top of your awareness funnel and helps increase your conversion rates and lowers your cost per acquisition (CPA). What that means is it measures the collected cost to acquire one paying customer, yeah you need to know stuff like this. You need a website, you need an EPK and you need a landing page. Some artists, look at their home page as the landing page, but it’s not. The home page and the landing page serve two different purposes. The home page doesn’t usually have a defined call to action (CTA) on it. It is more to introduce your visitors to you, your music, your vibe, and your persona. Yeah I know it’s a lot right…CPA, CTA, CPC, Geez, and all you wanted to do was make music right? Well, welcome to today's music industry.

So let’s think about your goal. Your goal is to get people to your website and keep them there until they take action right? Of course. So you want to give them something to attract them and not just your home page. The stakes is high, so why not do everything you can to keep their attention on your newest project or the latest thing you are working on? A landing page helps you to achieve a variety of objectives whether that is to get people to your gig, sell new products, or get new students to teach music lessons.

With that said there is more than one type of landing page. There is Lead Generation - this turns a passive viewer into a lead by capturing their contact info. The Click Through Landing Page - this one gives info about a sale if you decide to discount the first CD because you now have a second one available, so to get them to buy right away. The explainer or infomercial page, this one is for you lyric writers who want to share some of your lyrics or if you are selling online music lessons and want to explain what it is you are doing with a video. Then there’s the product detail landing page. This is the one for you folks that sell a lot of merch and tchotchkes online. This usually has a CTA (Call To Action) that instructs the viewer to skip through the site and go directly to the product offering and buy right away. Look here’s the reality, some of you musicians, rappers, and artists have more talent in your little finger than some of these “star” artists on million-dollar tours and million-dollar deals. But you don’t want to play this crazy game at a high level and they do. I understand too, there’s no guarantee that if you do you make it. But, you owe it to yourself to do everything there is to do to get there, you owe that to the gifter of talent too. Now let’s land this thing and get paid.
