$$YouTube & Independent Artist of the Week.

Hey, it’s TJ Miller, you want some game? Let's Tip Unda The Hat!

This week, YouTube, Let’s go -

Obviously YouTube is the number one online video platform to watch and upload videos. However, did you know that YouTube is the second largest search engine behind Google? Of course you did. Here are a couple of quick facts; 5 billion (with a B) videos are watched every day, YouTube gets over 30 million visitors a day - A DAY! 80% of 18 - 49 year olds watch YouTube in an average month. Does that sound like your demo? So the question isn’t should you as a DIY musician, composer, music business, art school, independent business person, etc be on YouTube; the question is how do you really monetize that joint? 🤔

People will tell you that all you have to do is set up your YouTube page to get monetized and the money will start rolling in….wrong! I wish it were that easy. It’s all in the numbers. You will need a balance of $100 or more from views. This means you will need about 20,000 views if you receive $5 per 1,000 views. To do this, YouTube created the YouTube Partner Program, which allows you to get paid through advertisements on your page. To be accepted into the YouTube Partners Program, you must: Have at least 1,000 subscribers, reach 4,000 valid public watch hours in a 12 month period, have an AdSense account, and you will get reviewed prior to approval. Now the next question is how much can I make? Basically you are looking at anywhere between $0.01 to $0.03 per view, which translates to $3 - $5 per 1000 views, and up to $5,000 for 1,000,000 views. YouTube income is generated by advertisements through AdSense, sponsorships with popular brands, and affiliate links.

Another way to make money on YouTube is user-generated content. Consequently, this means that someone is uploading a video that features your music. How is it detected? Well each time someone uses your music YouTube’s content ID system should pick it up automatically; of course there are ways shady people get around this, but this is the system at the moment.

So all this to say, you can get paid with your music on YouTube, and if you have super personality and can be an influencer you can make mo money mo money mo money!! The top YouTuber way back in 2018 made 22 million. Let that sink in...22 million!
