This week, how to increase your Catalog with Holiday Music - Let’s go -

Yeah, when you see the words holiday music you think of Christmas music. But remember Valentine's Day was yesterday? There were a lot of love songs being played in live music venues and over the airwaves. In addition, everywhere you went you heard either My Funny Valentine or a handful of other love songs. Now it can be said that any love song could be considered a “valentine” song. But throw the word Valentine in there and now it’s a classic. The two main reasons for attempting to make these types of classics are of course money and the possibility of it becoming a classic. This is something that you can release year after year without fail extending the life of your song catalog. Currently, Christmas and Easter have a lock on the holiday song market; with Easter being pretty much all gospel and classical. I personally wish people would take genuine attempts at making more than just popular Christmas songs. Now I know nobody is out there looking to pen a President’s Day song, but a modern-day Thanksgiving song would be dope.

This year, I wrote and my Phi Mu Alpha frat brother Eric Willis produced a Christmas song called Scatman's Fish & Grits, a non-traditional take on holiday music. Here is why you should write holiday music, you get to work it for a year before it comes out again. During the holidays' social media use goes up. This is when you want to be active in promoting your holiday song. This will help springboard you into the rest of the year or the start of a new year and set the trajectory of your next quarter (3 months) for activity as a professional musician and marketer of your craft. And lastly, for the most part, holiday songs are fun and help you with your brand. We can always give our fans something to smile at, even if most of our songs are dark and talk about despots and viral homicides.

Happy Holidays and may you have more than enough favor and blessings showered on you in 2023
