SEO for artists part 1 & #IAOTW - Linny Nance

Hey, it’s TJ Miller, you want some game? Let's Tip Unda The Hat!

This week, SEO, Let’s go -

So I get asked this question a lot so I thought I would tackle it here. Moreover, there’s a lot of info to discuss on this so this is part 1 of a 3 part series ok? Ok so…

I’m sure you wonder 🤔  how do you get to the top of the google search?  Well it’s all due to the magical mystical SEO; so what is that? SEO stands for  Search Engine Optimization, the art of making your content visible to search tools such as Google, YouTube etc. Content that is optimized ranks higher on organic search results. SEO is an important free marketing channel that works, as long as you work it. Yep it’s time consuming, slow and not that easy to do, but if you get it done, so worth it.

So for most musicians, the reason you jump through these SEO hoops to begin with is to make your content discoverable in search engines, and to create a positive and engaging experience for fans. So what that means simply is SEO is about making sure that when people are looking for your information and your music they can find it. When you start to think about SEO, one thing I’ve found that helps is to not think of yourself, but your fans. Who’s looking for you and why? So since your online presence is probably spread across many different platforms; your website, social media, video, streaming, tour dates, and eCommerce. With each of these platforms serving a different purpose for fans at different points, so are these platforms speaking the same language? Hashtags and keywords are the languages that these platforms speak, so your hashtags and keyword game has got to be strong, relevant and has to mirror each other. Did you know that hashtag analysis was a real thing? Research for keywords and hashtags that fans use. Afterwards use them in the metadata on your website and social pages. Include synonyms of the keywords to cover the variety of search terms fans are likely to use and use them across all platforms and be consistent. We’ll stop here for now, got mo stuff to say next week….
