This week, let's go to the top. - Let’s go -

Last week we talked about SEO (search engine optimization) and I said that the only way to get the SEO to work is to actually get people searching for you and talking about your music. This is called engagements. User engagement is a term used for all of the ways fans, followers, and visitors interact with your website or your socials. These metrics include all the time they spend on your site, the comments, shares, and whether they like it. Now let’s be real, we like views, especially on YouTube, but the reality is views are hollow victories; they are needed, we want and like them, and they can lead to something else, but we want them to go deeper than views. Engagement reflects a willingness to absorb your message, listen to your music,  vibe with your persona, and it serves as an indicator of genuine interest. Click-throughs can happen by mistake. Engagement is always intentional.

Another thing I talked about last week was consistency. When you find a group of keywords that work and that are relevant you want to stay consistent with them. Let’s say you have a list of 7 keywords that reflect who you are and what you do, then you want to make sure you use those and sprinkle them into whatever other keywords you are using. This next one is always subjective to me but you’ve got to do it. Make sure you’ve got great content. Yes, content is king, but boring content is dead. The subjective part? Who’s to say what is great? You might think what you are posting is so dope, that you keep posting content like that, but then you don’t get much engagement, or someone on your team texts you and says “yo, your posts are lame fam.” Don’t take it personally. Just simply start looking at like artists who are getting good engagements and copy. Yep, I said copy…kinda why I’m not a teacher.

Now for you folks that are doing Google Analytics you want to pay attention to things like page-views, new and returning customers, bounce rate, and time on site. There are others, click on pay attention to see the top 11, but these are really important.

So for your fans and followers, engagements really help take you up a few notches and this is where you want to spend your SEO time and efforts. ‘Cause at the end of the day, it’s all about the fans, followers, would-be fans advocates, and influencers right? Yeah, can you dig it?
