Check your email & #IAOTW - Angelo Michael Martin

Hey, it’s TJ Miller, you want some game? Let's Tip Unda The Hat!

This week, Email Marketing for Musicians, Let’s go -

So we all know what email is and use it daily. If you are a DIY musician, and you aren't using it to promote your music, keep reading. Now I know a lot of you are devoted to your craft and believe that the music will speak for itself, and because it’s soooo good it will mystically manifest itself into the hands, ears and hearts of the buying public….yeah that ain’t gon happen.😒  And being that you have your website (you do have your website right??) you need a way to get your fans over there; they’re not going to your site on their own. There are obviously many ways to get your music to listeners and social media is usually the first thing people think of. Even though some of the younger cats out there consider email old school; it still works and works well, as much as 40% more effective than facebook and twitter combined.

As with everything there are rules to the game, before you collect emails, you will need to choose an email marketing platform. These services provide features that collect and manage email lists, send bulk emails, collect analytics and so much more. Due to the can-spam act, it is illegal to host a newsletter without offering a form of ‘unsubscribe’ within, so running your newsletter through your Gmail account and BCC’ing is not the move. Plus, email marketing platforms give you a much more robust experience. Some of the email marketing services that are out there providing great services are Hubspot, Mailchimp, Fanbridge or even Bandzoogle who I use.

Once you’ve got your platform, it’s time to start a list. You need to get people to sign up. You can give away free downloads of unreleased tracks and remixes, access to exclusive backstage video, pre-save campaigns, sweepstakes, ticket giveaways or even other artists' content. Now if you need help getting your email campaigns going, hit me up, I’ll be glad to help.

This week's #IAOTW - Independent Artists Of The Week is Angelo Michael Martin, a Chicagoland singer/songwriter musician and Grambling State University (my alma mater) grad who is both original and funky!
